Dambai(O/R) March 26, GNA – The Ghana Police Service has deployed two armoured vehicles and personnel from its National Police Operations to Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region following a series of violent attacks that occurred on the night of March 25, 2026.

The move, directed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yuhuno, forms part of heightened security measures to restore calm and prevent further disturbances in the area.

The reinforcement, which includes tactical support units, is currently patrolling identified high-risk zones and securing key installations within the Nkwanta township.

A statement signed and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr John Nchor, Public Relations Affairs Officer, says the situation is now under control, with normal activities gradually resuming.

It said a joint team made up of personnel from the Police Service, Military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service has recovered five bodies, three males and two females from two separate locations in the Nkwanta South Municipality.

According to the statement copied to GNA, the bodies have been conveyed to the regional morgue for preservation, forensic examination, and identification.

It disclosed that investigations have since been launched under the supervision of the Regional Police Command to determine the circumstances surrounding the attacks and to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The statement revealed that security agencies are conducting door-to-door enquiries, reviewing available CCTV footage and analysing forensic evidence gathered from the scenes as part of efforts to reconstruct the events and establish possible motives.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, Mr Nchor has appealed to residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies.

He urged the public to volunteer for credible information that could aid investigations and cautioned against the spread of misinformation or actions that could inflame tensions.

Authorities have provided a hotline (0291213974) and an email address ([email protected]) for individuals to submit information confidentially.
