Protect your integrity, avoid cheating – Valley View University tells fresh students

By Kodjo Adams

Oyibi, March 5, GNA – Professor Daniel Ganu, Vice Chancellor of Valley View University, has advised newly admitted students to focus on their studies and avoid cheating to protect their integrity and future careers.

He said integrity remained the foundation of success and urged the students to desist from plagiarism, examination malpractice and other acts of indiscipline that could undermine their academic progress.

Prof Ganu gave the advice on Thursday at the 31st Matriculation Ceremony of the University at Oyibi, near Accra.

A total of 1,355 students were admitted to pursue diploma, degree and postgraduate programmes on the Accra, Kumasi and Techiman campuses.

The matriculants were from Ghana, the Gambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe.

The ceremony was on the theme: “Rooted in Values, Rising in Excellence.”

Prof Ganu explained that the theme reflected the University’s expectation that students would build their academic journey on strong values while striving for excellence throughout their studies.

“You must be grounded in the right values, and you must keep rising in excellence step by step until you graduate,” he said.

He said Valley View University was a value-based Christian institution committed to the holistic development of students, including their academic growth, character formation and readiness to serve society.

The Vice Chancellor said the University aimed to produce graduates with strong competence and character who could contribute meaningfully to their communities, workplaces and the nation.

Dr Daniel McKorley, Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies, urged the students to develop positive attitudes that would support their future careers.

“At McDan Company, we value attitude rather than certificates. Your attitude will make a difference in your life,” he said.

Dr McKorley also advised the students to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset by identifying problems and developing practical solutions that could prepare them for the world of work.

Some of the students who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed excitement about gaining admission to the University and pledged to make the most of the opportunity to pursue higher education.
