Productivity vacuum deepens as CLOGSAG strike enters fourth day

Ho, March 12, GNA – The nationwide strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has entered its fourth day, creating a significant productivity vacuum as public services remain largely halted.

The strike has effectively crippled administrative operations across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the Volta Region.

The industrial action, protesting delayed implementation of improved conditions of service and a revised salary structure, has left citizens frustrated, with government offices empty.

During a Ghana News Agency visit to units including works, planning and client services, offices were closed, preventing citizens from processing vital documents. The Births and Deaths Registry office was also locked, leaving clients stranded.

Ernest Sakyi, Volta Regional Secretary of CLOGSAG, warned that members working against the Association’s orders would face expulsion. He explained the strike had become necessary after a long wait and urged the media to help communicate the reasons to the public.

Mr Sakyi expressed hope that the government would implement the agreed-upon terms of service.

CLOGSAG officially withdrew services on Monday, March 9, 2026, citing the government’s persistent failure to enforce a revised salary structure and improved conditions of service agreed upon in 2019.

The ongoing strike highlights persistent industrial relations challenges and underscores the need for proactive management of worker demands.
