Ho, Aug. 12, GNA – Mr Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central Constituency, has called for increased investment in women teachers and practical nutrition education to improve learning outcomes and build a healthier future for Ghanaian children.
He said empowering women educators with the knowledge and tools to promote healthy nutrition would have a direct impact on the development of children and the nation as a whole.
Mr Kpotosu made the call when spoke to Ghana News Agency (GNA), when he joined the Muslim Women in Teaching, Ghana (MUSWIT/GH) for a programme on the theme: “Nourishing Minds, Nourishing Futures: Advancing Practical Nutrition Education in Basic Schools in Ghana through Women Teacher Leadership.”
He described the initiative as more than a thematic programme, saying it addressed an important national development need requiring sustained attention and support.
He said, a properly nourished child was better positioned to learn effectively, while an empowered teacher had the capacity to influence the lives of pupils positively.
He said women educators played multiple roles beyond classroom teaching, including nurturing young minds, moulding character, promoting healthy choices and preparing children to become responsible future leaders.
Mr Kpotosu therefore urged Parliament, the Government, civil society organisations, educational institutions and development partners to prioritise initiatives that promoted nutrition, quality education and women’s leadership.
He said investment in women teachers was an investment in the future of Ghana because they remained key actors in shaping the physical, intellectual and social development of children.
“When we nourish children, we fortify classrooms. When we empower teachers, we strengthen the nation.
When we uplift women, we empower future generations,” he said.
The MP expressed his readiness to support future activities of MUSWIT/GH and contribute to efforts aimed at building a healthier, better-educated and empowered Ghana.
He commended Muslim women teachers for their dedication to education and national development and urged them to continue playing their important role in shaping the future of the country.
Hajia Samira Abdul Mumin, the Volta Regional Manager of the Islamic Education Unit and Volta Regional Patron of MUSWIT/GH, expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their contributions to the development of Islamic educational institutions.
She urged stakeholders to do more to support Islamic education and contribute to the overall development and wellbeing of the Muslim community.
Hajia Abdul Mumin said sustained collaboration among stakeholders was necessary to address the educational, social and developmental needs of the Islamic community.
She expressed gratitude to partners and participants for supporting the programme and contributing to discussions on nutrition education and women’s leadership.
She said empowering women teachers would not only benefit individual schools but also contribute to the broader development of families and communities.
The programme brought together stakeholders in education, Muslim women teachers and other partners to discuss practical approaches to integrating nutrition education into basic school learning while strengthening women’s leadership in education.
