Kumasi, Aug. 12, GNA – The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, has encouraged its staff to make regular physical exercise part of their lifestyle to promote good health and overall well-being.

The call was made during the launch of the “KATH Move Fitness Club,” an initiative of the Family Medicine Directorate to encourage staff to prioritise their physical and mental health.

The club was officially launched with an aerobics session at the gym of the hospital’s Physiotherapy Centre.

About 20 staff members from various directorates and units participated in the maiden session, which featured warm-up routines, cardiovascular exercises, strength movements, stretching and cool-down exercises.

Dr. Emmanuel Ati, the Head of the Family Medicine Directorate, speaking at the launch, said the initiative reflected the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare workers also prioritised their own health.

“As healthcare professionals, we always encourage our patients to adopt healthy lifestyles.

It is equally important that we lead by example by taking care of our own physical and mental well-being.

This club provides an opportunity for staff to exercise together, stay healthy, and build stronger bonds across the hospital,” he said.

Dr Ati said the initiative was intended to encourage regular physical activity among staff and help reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases, promote mental well-being and improve workplace productivity.

He gave the assurance that aerobics sessions would be held every Friday at 1400 hours and would be open to all KATH staff, irrespective of age or fitness level.

“Regular exercises that promotes consistent physical activity helps to prevent non-communicable diseases, improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles and joints, reduces stress, and enhances overall quality of life and it is important that we all joint to reap the needed benefits,” he emphasised.

The launch featured a lively aerobics session led by physiotherapists, with staff actively participating in the various exercises in an energetic and supportive atmosphere.

Participants welcomed the initiative, saying it provided an opportunity to incorporate regular exercise into their weekly routines, while interacting with colleagues outside their normal work environment.
