Accra, March 26, GNA – The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called for an immediate freeze on all pre-award mobilisation by Engineers & Planners Limited to operationalise the Damang Gold Mine, pending the conclusion of lawful, transparent and properly documented tender processes.
Mr Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, the Ranking Member on Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Mampong, speaking on behalf of the Caucus, demanded parliamentary and ministerial briefings on the Damang Mines, supported by official documentation, before any contract award is finalised.
The Minority alleged that Engineers & Planners Limited, a company said to be owned by Ghana’s President John Dramani ’s brother, has been granted operational control of the Damang Gold Mine, one of Ghana’s most strategic mineral assets.
They argued that the concession raises serious concerns of state capture, where public resources are diverted to benefit a single family.
The Caucus expressed concern that the Damang Mines deal could have long-term implications for Ghana’s mining sector, particularly in relation to fair competition and resource allocation.
Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong declared: “Ghana is watching the Damang Gold Mine being arranged for the President’s brother, while that same brother’s private jet carries the President on official State visits free of charge.”
The Minority announced plans to submit a formal petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), requesting a review of the Damang Mines concession awarded to Engineers & Planners Limited.
