Accra, March 9, GNA – With nine matches to end the season, league leaders Medeama SC suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to relegation battlers Hohoe United  over the weekend as some results reshaped both ends of the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League (GPL) table.

The unbeaten home run of the ‘Mauve and Yellow’ Boys was crushed by Hohoe United, who have boosted their chances of surviving the relegation battle.

Medeama took the lead early in the second half through Kelvin Obeng, but the advantage lasted only minutes as defender Fatawu Sulemana scored an own goal.

Goalkeeper Felix Kyei later missed a penalty that would have restored the hosts’ lead before Hohoe United capitalised on a defensive mistake to score the winner.

Despite the loss, Medeama remained top of the standings with 46 points, just a point above second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, who also lost 3-1 away at Young Apostles.

Aduana FC ended a four-match winless run by beating bottom side Techiman Eleven Wonders 2-0 at Dormaa.

Patrick Mensah broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute before Richard Yeboah sealed the result with a long-range strike as Aduana strengthened their push for a topthree finish.

Accra Hearts of Oak were reduced to 10 men in a goalless draw with Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium. Kelvin Osei Asibey was dismissed in the 65th minute, putting Hearts under pressure, but goalkeeper Benjamin Asare made several saves to preserve the point.

Hearts remained third, five points behind leaders Medeama.

Heart of Lions climbed to 10th after a 1-0 win over Swedru All Blacks in Kpando. Michael Ephson’s 33rdminute free-kick ended the Lions’ three-match winless streak.

Swedru All Blacks slipped into the relegation zone following a third straight game without a win.

Karela United beat Asante Kotoko 1-0 thanks to Malik Abubakar’s 41stminute goal at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Kotoko’s hopes faded after Henry Ansu was sent off, while goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu kept Karela in front with key early saves.

The win lifts Karela to sixth, one place above Kotoko.
