Duayaw-Nkwanta (Ahafo), Aug. 18, GNA – Mr Pius Sampson Opoku, Tano North Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region, has lauded the Methodist Church of Ghana for its immeasurable contributions towards national progress.

He also acknowledged the church’s support towards sustaining national peace and social cohesion, commending its role in promoting discipline among the youth.

Mr Opoku gave the commendation at a thanksgiving service to climax the 50th anniversary celebration of the Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese at Duayaw-Nkwanta.

He said the government would continue to partner with churches and faith-based organisations to accelerate national development.

“We have to acknowledge the role of the church in helping to reduce deviant behaviours through its sustained sound biblical teachings and unending intercessions,” he said.

The celebration was on the theme: “Walking in the Word: Equipped for Every Good Work, 50 Years of God’s Goodness.”

In a sermon, the Right Reverend Daniel Kwasi Tannor, immediate-past Bishop of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese, said God’s blessings to mankind were always manifested for all to see and acknowledged God’s goodness and mercies to the church.

He said the globally acclaimed peaceful atmosphere in Ghanaian society was a manifestation of God’s blessings, urging Ghanaians to appreciate and praise God for it.

Rt Rev. Tannor said the Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit had every reason to celebrate God’s goodness and charged members to take responsibility for spreading the word of God.

“You must go out there and share God’s love with boldness and confidence as you witness the gospel, wherever man is found,” he urged.

Dr Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tano North Constituency, urged Christians to use their God-given talents productively and serve God and humanity.

He also urged Ghanaians to maintain their faith and trust in God amid the country’s economic challenges.

The event was attended by the Rt Rev. Kwaku Effah, Methodist Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese.

The Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit was carved out of the then Mim Circuit of the Methodist Church in 1976 and had since birthed the Tepa, Bechem and Techimantia circuits.

Citations were presented to some deserving members for their contributions to the growth and development of the circuit.
