Accra, March 3, GNA – Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has called on stakeholders within the Kumawood movie industry to unite and rebuild the sector as government rolls out a GH₵20 million investment package dedicated specifically to local film production.

President John Dramani Mahama, during his State of Nation Address last Friday, announced a GH₵40 million package for the creative arts sector, half of which has been earmarked to revitalise Kumawood and the broader Ghanaian film industry.

Speaking to GNA Entertainment, Lil Win expressed profound appreciation to President Mahama for prioritising Kumawood in the allocation.

He described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to reviving Ghana’s filmmaking culture and empowering creatives.

Lil Win commended the President’s leadership and foresight, noting that the decision to allocate GH₵20 million to Kumawood could serve as a major turning point for the industry.

According to him, the local film ecosystem holds enormous potential for job creation, especially for young people involved in acting, scriptwriting, directing, editing, cinematography and costuming.

The financial boost, he said, will help the sector expand opportunities for both emerging and established creatives.

Lil Win urged that the funds be used prudently to ensure real impact is felt across the value chain.

He emphasised the need for transparency, accountability and equitable distribution, saying: “I urge all industry players to come together so that no one feels sidelined in this ambitious project. The authorities must ensure that this money is used for its intended purpose, to strengthen our industry, tell the Ghanaian story and create jobs.”

He stressed that unity among filmmakers, producers, directors and creative associations will be critical to successfully transforming the industry and justifying the President’s bold investment decision.

“With unity, we can restore Kumawood to its former glory, and President Mahama will be proud of taking this decisive step to invest in the sector,” said Lil Win.
