GIPA identifies 48 investment opportunities in Upper West Region

Wa, (UW/R), Oct. 21, GNA – The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) says it has identified 48 investment opportunities in the Upper West Region, which require millions of Ghana cedis to be harnessed.

The opportunities spanned agriculture, livestock production and processing, agro-processing, renewable energy, manufacturing, and tourism, among others.

These investment opportunities were being packaged for presentation to the global investment community to stimulate economic growth and address regional disparities in investment flows.

Mr Yussif Mustapha, Principal Promotions Officer at the GIPA, revealed this in Wa during the Upper West Regional Investment Forum, which formed part of efforts to attract domestic and foreign investors to the region to promote its economic development.

He explained that the initiative was to help address the seemingly disproportionate concentration of Ghana’s foreign direct investment (FDI) in the southern part of the country, with limited flows to the northern part.

The forum, therefore, formed part of the government’s nationwide Investment Opportunities Mapping Project, aimed at showcasing the nation’s investment potential and promoting dialogue on sustainable economic growth and development.

“So, these are government policies and programs that seek to not only safeguard your investments but also ensure that you get the optimal returns from your investments”, Mr Mustapha explained.

He said the regional investment forums would culminate in the Ghana Investment Forum scheduled for November 2026 in Accra, where the identified opportunities would be showcased to the global investment community.

Mr Mustapha identified the region’s arable land as an opportunity for cultivating food and cash crops, while its water resources could support irrigation, aquaculture and other water-related enterprises.

Speaking in an interview with the media at the forum, Ms Zainabu Issah, Public Relations Officer of GIPA, said the project, which began in 2025, had so far gathered about 600 investment opportunities across the regions, with the five regions in the north presenting 148 opportunities for investment.

She said the Upper West Region’s 48 investment opportunities demonstrated its potential to attract investment, particularly in agriculture and agro-processing.

Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Upper West Regional Minister, called on investors, businesses and development partners to invest in the region to unlock its economic potential, create jobs and improve livelihoods.

He said the region possessed valuable natural resources, a rich cultural heritage, a hardworking population, and an entrepreneurial spirit that could support economic development if adequately harnessed.

“Potential alone does not bring prosperity. Resources must be developed, ideas must become viable businesses, and opportunities must be supported by infrastructure, financing, access to markets and responsive public institutions”, he said.

The Regional Minister urged the stakeholders to move beyond highlighting the region’s potential and focus on developing viable projects that could attract credible investors and generate tangible benefits for local communities.

The GIPA visited some businesses, including Azumah Resources Ghana Limited and Lamdi Farms, to assess their operations and explore ways to support and promote their projects to the investment community.
