Kumasi, March 18, GNA – The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has arrested four individuals for engaging in the sale of illicit drugs during a targeted operation within the metropolis.

The arrests were carried out by the Assembly’s internal security task force at a sanitation area behind the Ashtown Post Office.

The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service, specifically the Kumasi Central Police, to assist with further investigations.

Items retrieved during the operation included substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a locally manufactured pistol, packs of cigarettes, hard drugs, boxes of “Mashallah” (Ataya), an undisclosed amount of cash, and other materials believed to be harmful.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Assembly and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the KMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the city, stressing that such operations would be sustained to curb criminal activities and safeguard public health and safety.

It also called on residents to support ongoing efforts by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with the authorities to ensure a safer environment for all.
