Accra, March 3, GNA- The 2001 Year Group of Holy Child School in Cape Coast, known as the Sapphires, will commission a 20,000-gallon solar-powered water system to provide reliable water for students and staff.
The project, which forms part of activities marking the schoolâs 80th Anniversary and the Groupâs Silver Jubilee Homecoming, will be officially handed over on Thursday, March 5, during the Founderâs Day celebration.
The 50KW hybrid solar system, with 35.12KWH storage and a 28.56kWp solar pumping station, is expected to eliminate water shortages and ensure reliable supply, supporting uninterrupted academic and residential activities for over 2,000 students and staff.
Speaking on the impact of the project, Madam Anita Nadia Attah, President of the 2001 Year Group, said the project was a demonstration of gratitude and commitment to improving conditions for current and future students.
âThis project is our âThank youâ to our alma mater. It is important to us to ensure that we mark 25 years of leaving Angelâs Hill with more than just memories,â she said.
âWe are doing this by providing a clean, solar-powered water solution for the school so that the precious time of the girls is focused on their learning, thereby providing assurance that they have the environment they need to lead and excel.â
She said the group was honoured to contribute meaningfully to the schoolâs legacy and called on other old students to support initiatives that promoted sustainability and institutional development.
âAs Sapphires, we are honoured to lead the way back home, not just to celebrate, but to give back through our Legacy Water Project. We are calling on all HOPSANs to join us as we paint Cape Coast Sapphire Blue and Purple,â she emphasised.
The commissioning forms part of a week-long anniversary celebration from Wednesday March 4 to March 8.
Other highlights of the celebration include the 80th Anniversary Speech and Prize Giving Day on March 7, which will be attended by the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as Special Guest of Honour, and Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, as Chairperson.
The celebration will end with a thanksgiving service at the school chapel on March 8, bringing together old students and current students to celebrate the schoolâs achievements over the past 80 years.
