Accra, March 30, GNA – Ghana’s Black Stars delivered a spirited performance but fell to a 2-1 defeat against Germany at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.
The hosts started strongly, pinning Ghana back in the opening stages, but goalkeeper Benjamin Asare stood tall with a series of crucial saves to keep the score level.
Germany thought they had taken the lead late in the first half through Florian Wirtz, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
Germany eventually broke the deadlock just before halftime, with Kai Havertz calmly converting from the penalty spot.
Ghana nearly responded early in the second half when Prince Kwabena found himself in a promising position, but his close-range effort was deflected wide.
The Germans continued to push for a second goal, coming close through Nick Woltemade, whose header struck the crossbar.
The Black Stars were very impressive in the second half with renewed energy and attacking intent. Jordan Ayew came close to equalising, but his effort rattled the base of the post.
Ghana’s persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Fatawu Issahaku finished from close range after a well-worked move set up by Derrick Kohn.
With momentum shifting, Ghana looked capable of holding on, but Germany’s late pressure proved decisive. Deniz Undav netted from close range in the 88th minute to seal victory for the home side.
Despite the loss, Ghana’s performance will offer plenty of encouragement as they continue to build for the 2026 World Cup in June.
