Sefwi-Wiawso (WN), June 08, GNA – The Western North Region recorded 33 fire incidents in the first quarter of 2026, down from 36 in the same period in 2025.

This represents an 8.33 percent decrease year-on-year.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Philip Kudzo Amagnoh, Regional Commander in an interview, said domestic fires drove the concern.

He said the region recorded 17 domestic fire cases in the first quarter of 2026, a 70 percent increase from 10 in the first quarter of 2025.

Mr Amagnoh said   industrial fires remained at four in both years. Commercial fires rose from three in 2025 to seven in 2026.

The command also recorded two electrical fires and three vehicular fires in the first quarter of 2026.

Mr Amagnoh said the Safety and Public Relations Department had been tasked to intensify public education on fire prevention and train workers in commercial, industrial and institutional facilities on fire safety and the use of portable extinguishers.

He attributed intensified house-to-house and market sensitisation for the overall decline in the fire cases during the quarter.

The Regional Commander commended residents for their cooperation and called for stronger collaboration, stressing that firefighting was a shared responsibility.

He also praised Nana Ofori Ahenkan, the Chief of Sefwi-Boinzan and Council Chairman, for his leadership and urged residents to support him.

Mr Amagnoh further appealed for a regional headquarters to improve upon firefighting response in the Western North Region.
