Accra, March 18, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has honoured a 54‑member engineering contingent for its humanitarian deployment to Jamaica with a mission accomplishment parade.

The parade, held at the 48 Engineers Parade Square at Wajir Barracks, Teshie, recognised the Army Engineer Reconstruction Team (ERT) Company One for its role in post‑disaster reconstruction following Hurricane Melissa, a tropical cyclone that struck parts of the West Indies in October last year.

The team was deployed on December 16, 2025, as part of Ghana’s contribution to international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

President John Dramani Mahama, Commander‑in‑Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, who welcomed the contingent, commended the personnel for their professionalism, discipline and dedication.

He said their efforts contributed significantly to the recovery of affected communities in Jamaica and enhanced Ghana’s international image.

The President said the deployment strengthened bilateral relations between Ghana and Jamaica, as well as other Caribbean states, and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to global peace and humanitarian support.

He presented a citation to the contingent in recognition of its performance and successful completion of the mission.

President Mahama also commended the Officer Commanding ERT Company One, Colonel Emmanuel Asia, for his leadership, which he said reflected the standards of the GAF.

The 90‑day mission involved the reconstruction of houses in Saint Elizabeth Parish, including Middle Quarters, Black River, Thorton and adjoining communities, to improve living conditions after the hurricane.

The ceremony was attended by Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi, Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General William Agyapong, Chief of the Defence Staff, other Service Chiefs, senior military officers, families of personnel and pupils from schools within the Wajir Barracks enclave.

The parade marked the formal conclusion of the mission and recognised the contingent’s contribution to international humanitarian efforts.
