Accra, March 22, GNA — The 4th Africa Education Summit ended in Accra on Saturday with its maiden awards ceremony, recognising 100 individuals for their impact on education in Africa.

They included Dr. Paul Fynn, Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana.

The three-day summit organized by African Education Hub discussed various themes on how to improve quality of education in Africa.

The awards ceremony was introduced to recognise individuals and institutions whose work continues to shape education development and innovation across the continent.

Dr Fynn received a Certificate of Achievement from Global Skills Hub, United Kingdom, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to advancing education and his transformative impact on learning, leadership and educational development in Africa.

A citation also recognised him among the 100 Most Impactful Education Personalities in Africa (2025) for his role in strengthening academic quality, professional training and technology-driven education.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency shortly after receiving the award, Dr Fynn expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as unexpected and motivating.

“I am extremely happy today. First, we thank God, and secondly, I did not know this award was going to be given to me and also Wisconsin International University,” he said.

He said the recognition highlighted the urgent need to prioritise quality education across Ghana and Africa.

“The most important thing that should really be addressed is quality education. We should try as much as possible not to water down the educational system in Ghana because once we alter it, we are doomed,” he stated.

Dr Fynn noted that his institution’s investment in practical training facilities, particularly in nursing education, law and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, contributed to the recognition.

“The world is moving more into technology, especially cyber security and artificial intelligence, and we have invested in laboratories and equipment in these areas, which has helped us achieve this recognition,” he added.

The 4th Africa Education Summit, held from March 19 to 21 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, was organised by Global Skills Hub UK in partnership with Africa Education Stakeholders and the Ghana Ministry of Education, on the theme: “Advancing EdTech Integration in African Education: A Unified Roadmap for Action.”

The summit brought together policymakers, educators, researchers, technology innovators and development partners to promote collaboration, bridge the digital divide and develop strategies to strengthen technology-driven education systems across Africa, with the awards ceremony serving as a fitting finale to the gathering.
