Sege, March 07, GNA – Mr Mordjifa Tanihu Jerry John Foreigner Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive, has called on residents to translate Ghana’s independence into a renewed commitment toward development, discipline and community responsibility.

Mr Mills-Nkrumah said independence should not merely be celebrated as a historical achievement but must serve as a reminder of the collective duty to build prosperity and restore hope for future generations.

At a parade held at Sege to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration, he noted that Ghana’s independence was achieved through sacrifice and courage; therefore, its progress must be sustained through action and commitment.

“Sixty-nine years ago, our forebears declared that this land would belong to its people. But independence was never meant to be comfort; it was meant to be commitment,” he stated.

He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to take advantage of opportunities within their communities and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ada West.

“If we truly want to build prosperity, we must produce more than we consume. If we want to restore hope, we must show our youth that opportunity is not somewhere else — it is here in Ada,” he added.

Dr Stephen Arthur, the District Director of Education for Ada West, also emphasised the role of education in national development and encouraged students to remain disciplined and committed to their academic pursuits.

He commended participating schools for their orderly conduct during the parade and said activities such as the march past help instill discipline, patriotism and teamwork among students.

After the parade, Presby No. 1 Junior High School emerged as the overall best contingent, scoring 245 points out of 300 to top the JHS category, while Renobor JHS placed second with 236 points.

In the primary school category, Presby No. 1 Primary placed first with 231 points, followed by Potter’s Kids School with 213 points.

The senior high school category was won by ASTECH Boys, which scored 222 points out of 300.

Potter’s Kids School was adjudged as the Best-Dressed Contingent, while Presby No.1 Primary received the Most Disciplined Contingent award.

The event brought together traditional leaders, government officials, security agencies, teachers, students and community members to commemorate Ghana’s 69th independence anniversary.
