Ada West DCE inspects Wokumagbe CHPS compound under construction

Wokumagbe-Ada, March 25, GNA – Mr Mordjifa Tanihu Jerry John Foreigner Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive (DCE), has expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction works on the Wokumagbe Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, which is nearing completion.

The project, which began in December 2025, forms part of the assembly’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery for residents across the district.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the project site, Mr Mills-Nkrumah disclosed that the facility was one of several initiatives commissioned by the assembly to meet the healthcare needs of rapidly growing communities.

He noted that although Wokumagbe previously relied on the health centre at Lekpongunor in the Ningo-Prampram District, the size and population of the community necessitated a dedicated CHPS compound.

“This facility will ensure residents access quality healthcare within their community,” he said, adding that this initiative would also enhance the assembly’s documentation for bigger support from the government.

He disclosed that, while the project was initially scheduled for six months, he anticipates an earlier commissioning and handover.

The contractor, Mr Ignatius Amoah, stated that the initial cost for the project was estimated at GHs900,000, adding, however, that adjustments to address the waterlogged nature of the land and additional provisions required to complete the work might increase the total cost.

He indicated that while the project was expected to be completed by the end of March, it would now be ready before mid-April.

Dr Maxwell Onassis Fiadjoe, the acting Ada West District Director of Health Services, commended the pace of the construction and highlighted several minor changes to the facility, which have been agreed upon by the DCE and the contractor to ensure the compound meets the needs of health workers and residents alike.

The Wokumagbe CHPS compound is expected to significantly improve healthcare access in the community and form part of the district’s broader strategy to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the assembly has postponed the handing over of a CHPS compound at Abuanorkorpe near Lolonya, citing concerns over the quality and completeness of the project.

The decision, taken during an inspection visit, followed the DCE’s observation that some essential components of the facility had not been completed.

He told the GNA that although available documents indicated that the project, which commenced in 2022 under the previous administration, had been completed, his inspection revealed otherwise.

The DCE said key facilities such as electricity, water reservoir, and other essential amenities were not in place.

“I have made allocations for the provision of these essential services, including graveling parts of the compound to improve accessibility for both health workers and patients, especially during the rainy season,” he said.

The DCE further explained that there were inconsistencies in the documentation regarding the exact location of the facility, noting that while the project site is at Abuanorkorpe, official records indicated it as being in Lolonya.

“To avoid any confusion or misunderstanding, we need to ensure proper documentation and inscription of the facility before it is handed over,” he added.

The Chief of the area, Nene Nuertey Abuanor II, and his elders supported the decision to postpone the handover but appealed to the assembly to expedite the completion of the project, expressing hope that the facility would soon be made operational to improve access to quality healthcare for residents.
