Tema Assembly member calls for investment in girl-child education

Tema, Feb. 04, GNA – Mr Charles Amos, Assembly Member for Padmore Electoral Area in Tema, has called for renewed commitment to girl-child education as a strategic pathway to empowering women to occupy higher leadership and decision-making positions in society.

Mr Amos emphasised that educating the girl child was not only a social responsibility but also a critical investment in national development.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that his experiences working with individuals in high-level positions had shown that many women in authority were highly proactive and results-orientated.

He noted that women leaders often demonstrated strong commitment, diligence, and accountability in the execution of their duties; as such, the country must deliberately support girl-child education to prepare more women for leadership roles in the future.

The assembly member highlighted that empowering girls through education contributed to broader social outcomes, including improved health, reduced poverty, and stronger local governance, and called on parents to prioritise the education of their daughters.

He also urged policymakers to implement policies that promote gender equity in schools and workplaces and commended Ms Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), for being bold and decisive in the decongestion of unauthorised structures within the metropolis.

He said her actions demonstrated the kind of leadership that prioritises order, safety, and long-term development over short-term political considerations, saying the decongestion exercise, though challenging, was necessary to restore sanity and improve urban planning in the region.
