Akatsi (VR), Feb. 05, GNA – The Management of the St Paul’s Hospital Limited at Akatsi in the Volta Region has officially opened its Emergency, Pharmacy, and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) Units, to boost quality health delivery in the Volta Region and beyond.

The Emergency Unit, named ‘Dagbui Memorial Emergency Unit’ was aimed at recognising the enormous contributions made to health care delivery by Dr Paul Doe Dagbui, a medical Director and Founder of the Hospital, who passed on in 2022.

The facilities, the management said, would enhance their operations and ensure a first-class healthcare system of delivery, which had remained the facility’s hallmark for the past 31 years.

Mr Seyram Dagbui, the Chief Executive of the Hospital who doubles as the Administrator, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), during the ceremony that the hospital would continue to offer excellent client service towards the well-being of all.

“St Paul’s Hospital Ltd remains a notable figure in the health sector due to hard work and quality healthcare delivery to our clients and we are poised to build on the solid foundations laid by our late father, who rescued several patients during his lifetime,” he said.

Mr Dagbui further hinted that the Hospital would acquire a new ambulance vehicle to aid in emergency cases.

Madam Bridget Bockor, the Hospital’s Matron and the in-charge at the Maternity unit, told the GNA that the new NICU unit, which has three incubators and a photo therapy machine, would provide healthcare for pre-term or babies who required close monitoring or medical intervention after birth.

She added that the new NICU unit, would provide critical care for newborns, particularly those who were born premature, had low birth weight, or were born with medical conditions that required intensive monitoring and treatment.

Mr Freeman Sappor, the in-charge at the new ultra-modern Emergency Unit, on his part, revealed that the new facility has enough beds and other equipment aimed at handling complex situations.

“This is the critical care point for trauma, medical, and surgical emergencies. We receive both referred and self-presenting patients from across Akatsi South and other areas in Ghana,” he said.

The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Fr Theophilus Mensah, the Parish Priest of Ave-Dakpa Roman Catholic Church, where he prayed for God’s mercy and healing powers for all who would require the services of the facilities.

The Hospital has a total staff strength of 75, including a surgeon, a resident Doctor, two medical Doctors, and two Physician Assistants and it was noted for recording zero maternal death for the past four years, and renders diagnostic services with modern equipment.
