Police investigate death of second-year KNUST student

Kumasi, Feb. 10, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Security Services, has commenced investigations into the death of a second-year student on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The deceased, Mr Ransford Amankwaa Asamani, a Bachelor of Science Agribusiness Management student, reportedly fell from the second floor of a private hostel where he resided.

A statement issued by the University and signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, the University Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and said it occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the statement, the student was rushed to the KNUST Hospital by colleagues but was pronounced dead on arrival.

It said the Police, with assistance from the University’s security, had begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the KNUST Hospital morgue pending an autopsy and further investigations.

The University indicated that the parents of the student had been informed and extended its condolences to the bereaved family.

The statement reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security and well-being of all students and staff.
