Esiama (W/R), Nov. 07, GNA – Traditional rulers and stakeholders in Esiama have commended Madam Angela Dialla Attieh, Chief Executive Officer of ADAMUS Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Nguvu Mining Company Limited, for the company’s support towards the development of the Esiama Senior High Technical School (ESHTS).
The commendation followed the donation of 200 tables and chairs, 150 pairs of sports shoes, and 350 sanitary pads to the school.
The praise was expressed during a familiarisation visit by a delegation of chiefs and elders led by Nana Ainoo Kwagyan III, Divisional Chief of Esiama, to the management and students of the school, barely a week after the climax of the annual Kundum Festival.
The festival, which marked the end of one harvest season and the beginning of another, highlighted the need for stakeholders to champion development initiatives within the community.
The delegation included Dr George Sipa Yankey, Development Chief (Nkosuohene) of Esiama and Board Chairman of the Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock Company, Mr Joe Wise, a businessman, Nana Agyane Aka VI, Chief of Salma, and Nana Ezane Nda, Tufuhene of Esiama.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sipa Yankey, a former Minister of Health and former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, said he had observed the significant contributions of ADAMUS Resources towards the development of the school.
He said it was important to acknowledge the efforts of Madam Attieh to encourage the company to invest further in initiatives that enhanced teaching and learning.
Dr Sipa Yankey noted that the donation of tables and chairs had helped reduce the furniture deficit in the school, where many students previously lacked adequate desks during instructional hours.
He also commended Madam Attieh for the ongoing renovation of the girls’ dormitory and plans to construct a new dormitory block for female students.
He further noted that ADAMUS Resources had constructed a 15-seater ultra-modern water closet toilet facility for the school.
Despite the interventions, Dr Sipa Yankey expressed concern about the poor state of the school’s science laboratory, which he said lacked the apparatus and equipment needed for practical lessons.
He also raised concerns about leaking classroom roofs during the rainy season and congestion in some classrooms, describing them as challenges that continued to affect effective teaching and learning.
Dr Sipa Yankey recalled that some of the classroom blocks currently in use were old and dilapidated, having served as classrooms for the former Middle School during his basic education before the institution was upgraded into a Senior High Technical School.
He assured the school community of his commitment to mobilising support and advocating additional development projects for the institution.
For his part, Nana Ainoo Kwagyan III said the visit was intended to translate the commitments and aspirations expressed during the grand durbar marking the climax of the Kundum Festival into tangible development outcomes.
He said the increasing student population required additional infrastructure, including classroom blocks, dormitories, and teachers’ accommodation.
Nana Ainoo Kwagyan assured students and staff of his determination to support efforts aimed at securing more projects to improve teaching and learning in the school.
Mr Francis Amissah, Headmaster of the school, who conducted the delegation round the campus to inspect facilities, commended the chiefs and elders for their continuous support.
He highlighted a number of development milestones achieved through the efforts of Dr Sipa Yankey, particularly the ongoing boys’ dormitory project, which he lobbied for through Ghana Gas and which was currently being continued by the company.
