Adaklu Waya (V/R), Feb. 14, GNA – Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE) has said the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) is a flagship initiative of the National Democratic Congress administration, which combines structured skills training with material support and certification.
He said the initiative was targeted at young people across the country.
Mr Ameko stated this when he presented working tools to beneficiaries of the Programme on behalf of Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu at Adaklu Waya.
The items included manual and industrial sewing machines, knitting machines, welding boots, and protective glasses for welders.
The items were presented to master craftsmen and madams, and 30 apprentices.
Mr Ameko said the presentation formed part of government’s efforts at equipping young people with employable skills to transition them into sustainable livelihoods.
He noted that the donation demonstrated government’s commitment to linking skills acquisition with practical resource support.
The DCE, who is also the Dean of Volta Region MDCEs, emphasised that beyond training the provision of start-up tools was intended to remove structural barriers that often-prevented trained youth from establishing themselves in their respective trades.
He stated that the initiative also aligned with the broader objectives of the NAP which focused on reducing youth unemployment, strengthening vocational and technical capacity, and improving inclusive economic participation at the district level.
Mr Ameko continued that the donation formed part of a series of such donations which he noted would benefit more youths.
He advised the beneficiaries to put the equipment to good use so as to be empowered economically.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, indicating that the tools would significantly enhance their productivity and enable them to operate independently upon completion of their training.
They praised President John Dramani Mahama for instituting the Programme and hoped more youths would be trained and equipped with income generating skills.
