Lomobiawer assembly member holds community forum, assures transparency

Big Ada, Feb. 14, GNA -Mr Ebenezer Ayiku Akuaku Anderson, the Assembly Member for the Lomobiawer Electoral Area in the Ada East District, has engaged residents on key challenges affecting the area, exploring practical solutions to promote development and order.

The forum also served as an accountability session, during which the assembly member updated constituents on his stewardship and initiatives since assuming office.

Mr Anderson, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Big Ada, stated that transparency and accountability remained the hallmark of his leadership, emphasising that regular engagement with residents strengthens trust, unity and collective responsibility.

He indicated that upon assuming office, he was confronted with several challenges, including open defecation, inadequate street lighting, sanitation concerns, theft, and limited access to potable water.

He said some progress had been made regarding the extension of pipe-borne water to parts of the electoral area, the provision of water reservoirs in selected areas, and the installation of additional streetlights, to improve security.

Mr Anderson, who is also the Chairperson of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disability (GFPD), disclosed that he had facilitated employment opportunities for some residents and supported several youths to enrol in skills training programmes.

He, however, noted that some challenges persist, particularly low participation in communal labour and clean-up exercises.

He expressed concern that some individuals had attempted to undermine his efforts by using his visual impairment against him to discourage residents from participating in community activities.

“I sometimes feel discouraged when my disability is used against me as if I am less of a human being. Some people discourage others from attending communal labour or clean-up exercises when I call for them, but many residents still support the vision for development,” he said.

Some community members and opinion leaders who attended the forum commended the initiative and pledged continued support.

Madam Gladys Cudjoe, a resident, told the GNA that in the more than two decades she had lived in the area, she had not witnessed the level of development seen under the current assembly member.

“I sometimes wonder if he is really an assembly member because of the transformation we are seeing. May God protect him for us,” she said.

Mr Teye Akuaku, another resident, urged constituents to rally behind the assembly member to enable him to achieve more developmental milestones for the community.
