Gunu breaks ground for construction of educational facilities at Tsiame SHTS

Tsiame (VR), Feb. 17, GNA – Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has led a sod-cutting ceremony at Tsiame Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Keta Municipality, to launch the construction of major infrastructure projects that would transform the school’s facilities.  

The event also marked the beginning of a development programme aimed at improving educational and living conditions of students and staff at Tsiame SHTS.  

Mr Gunu, during the sod-cutting ceremony held at Tsiamesco, stated that the project would include six key projects which were earmarked for construction under the initiative which signaled a significant investment in the school’s infrastructure.  

“The first project is a two-storey dormitory block with a courtyard, designed to provide comfortable accommodation for students and teachers,” he said.  

He said that the rest of the projects were three-storey, 18-unit classroom block, dining hall with kitchen, four number two-unit, two-bedroom staff bungalows would be built to expand learning spaces and accommodate more students effectively as well as enhance food service and nutrition for the school community.  

“A three-bedroom headmaster’s bungalow is also part of the projects, intended to provide suitable residential quarters for the school’s head, it will provide a comfortable and conducive environment for the headmaster to concentrate academic works.”  

Mr Gunu stated that, a 1.4-kilometre fence wall with gates would be constructed around the school premises to improve security and access control and emphasised that the new facilities would enhance the learning environment and promote academic excellence at Tsiame SHTS.  

Mr Gunu mentioned that through the GETFUND projects the region was able to award construction 24 Dining halls, 40 dormitory blocks, 12 administration blocks, 3 sickbays, 8 Headmaster’s bungalows, 59 staff bungalows, and four science laboratories.  

The rest included 12 of 12-unit classroom blocks, and 13 of 18-unit classroom blocks, four Libraries and ICT blocks, as well as 34 toilet facilities, and promised that construction of the Big Push Road project would commence soon, to connect Abor, Atiavi and other communities in the area.  

Mr Seth Aklatsi, the constructor of the projects in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, pledged to deliver a successful and good work and appealed to the community to cooperate with the workers to ensure a better job.  

The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by Chiefs, assembly members, community members among others who believed that the completion of the infrastructure projects would position Tsiame Senior High Technical School as a model institution in the Volta Region to inspire further educational investments.  

GNA gathered that the projects are expected to be completed in six months.
