Ho, Feb 25, GNA – The Ho Municipal Assembly has distributed business-support items to persons with disabilities, to promote sustainable livelihoods and reduce street-level hardship.

The initiative formed part of the government’s statutory allocation under the District Assemblies Common Fund for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), aimed at promoting economic independence and social inclusion.

Mr Stephen Adom, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive ( MCE), who supervised the presentation, said the Assembly remained committed to ensuring beneficiaries received the resources due them and used them effectively to transform their lives.

“It is a fulfilling day as we provide support that can help our people build viable and sustainable businesses,” he noted.

The items presented included cash packages, fufu-pounding machines, chest freezers, sewing machines, laptops, barbering kits and assorted provisions such as rice, oil and detergents.

The selection of items was based on beneficiaries’ stated vocational interests to enhance long-term impact.

Mr Adom said the ultimate goal was to reduce the financial hardship that often compelled some PWDs to resort to begging on the streets. “We want to help eliminate the hardship that sometimes pushes our brothers and sisters onto the streets,” he said.

He announced that a monitoring task force would track the use of the items and identify beneficiaries who demonstrated hard work and commitment.

“Those who excel will be rewarded and supported further,” he assured, stressing accountability and sustained empowerment.

The MCE also appealed to families within the municipality to treat relatives with disabilities with dignity and compassion.

“They deserve our humanity, respect and encouragement. Families must stand with them,” he emphasised.

Mr Adom said the Assembly’s commitment was to support all citizens, particularly the vulnerable.

“We are committed to empowering every resident of Ho Municipality, and no one will be left behind,” he said,

He urged beneficiaries to make full use of the support to improve their livelihoods.
