Akropong‑Akuapem (E/R), Feb. 1, GNA – Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akropong Constituency have delivered a resounding victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s presidential primary, casting 566 out of 769 valid votes at the Presbyterian College of Education polling centre.
The emphatic outcome capped a peaceful and well‑organised election in one of the party’s strongholds, where delegates turned out early to select their preferred candidate in the NPP’s process to choose a flagbearer for the 2028 general election.
Voting commenced at 0700 hours with all electoral materials available. Presiding Officer Daniel Adiamah said the centre was ready to receive about 810 delegates, and by 0800 hours nearly 40 had already cast their ballots.
The exercise, conducted in seven batches to enhance efficiency, proceeded peacefully and orderly. Police personnel provided security and inspected delegates to ensure compliance with voting protocols. Divisional Police Commander, Madam Comfort Miah, said her team was prepared for any eventuality and noted that the area had a long record of calm elections.
At 1025 hours, representatives from the British High Commission arrived to observe the process.
Shortly afterwards, the Member of Parliament for Akropong, Mr Sammy Awuku, cast his vote and commended the constituency for its “consistent maturity” in electoral conduct.


After close of polls, Returning Officer Solomon Angaaga of the Electoral Commission announced the results as follows:
• Dr Mahamudu Bawumia – 566 votes (73.0%)
• Dr Bryan Acheampong – 117 votes (15.21%)
• Mr Ken Agyapong – 82 votes (10.66%)
• Dr Yaw Osei Adu Twum – 1 vote (0.13%)
• Mr Kwabena Adjei Agyapong – 3 votes (0.39%) 1
There were no rejected ballots, and total valid votes cast stood at 769. 1
The presidential primary forms part of the NPP’s national process to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general election. Officials at the centre reported no major incidents throughout the exercise.
