Akatsi (VR), Feb. 21, GNA- Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, has appealed to persons with disabilities to ensure items and support received from the government are not diverted to a different purpose.

“I would like to take a moment to remind everyone that these items are meant for personal use and should not be sold,” he said

Mr Dagba gave the admonishment during a short ceremony by the Municipal Assembly to distribute items aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities in income-generating activities, based on their requests.

He stated that to uphold the integrity of the program, the Assembly would be conducting inspections and monitoring the usage of the said items with severe sanctions if found guilty of selling the items.

“If anyone is found selling the items, the matter will be referred to the disciplinary committee,” he said.

Mr Dagba further explained that the initiative remained part of the Assembly’s ongoing commitment through the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) to empower PWDs so as to also enhance their quality of life.

He added that the government would continue to support PWDs regardless of their political affiliation, adding, “there is a committee in charge of all applications and the quarterly delivery of all items.

“I can assure those who are yet to benefit to remain calm since it’s a process, it’s a quarterly gesture, their time will come.”

Mr Felix Sagah, the Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare, in an engagement with the Ghana News Agency during the ceremony, revealed that a total of 33 beneficiaries comprising 12 females and 21 males have received their various supports.

He reiterated their commitment to rendering services to the vulnerable, marginalised, disadvantaged, disabled, and the excluded.

Mr Sagah further explained that their goal was to promote and implement government policies and public services that could substantially improve social inclusion and the development of people and communities.

He said the government would not relent on its promises to keep extending support to PWDs for a better way of living.

He urged other individuals with any form of disability to approach their outfit to register for the necessary processes to be done.

David Amoh, a professional teacher and a beneficiary on his part, expressed gratitude to the government for coming to their aid.

He also encouraged other disabled persons to never give up in life since disability does not mean inability.

Other items presented include Laptop computers, a deep freezer, Mobile Cassava Mills, a refrigerator, Printer and Desktop Computer, bags of maize, and Plastic Chairs.
