Afenyo-Markin calls for restructuring of NDPC around technical competence

By Godwill Arthur-Mensah, GNA

Accra, Feb. 27, GNA – Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has called for the restructuring of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to strengthen its technical competence and expertise in the economic domain.

He underscored the need for reforms that would ensure the NDPC is anchored on sound economic expertise, while cautioning that such reforms must not disproportionately deprive citizens of their rights.

Mr Afenyo-Markin made the call during the maiden public lecture organised by Parliament’s Public Affairs Subdivision in Accra on Thursday, on the theme, “Centrism: Formulation of Policies of a Growing Democracy”.

The lecture sought to encourage citizens’ participation in legislative processes and enhance public understanding on the procedures and practices of Parliament.

The Effutu Legislator stressed that effective national development planning required a balance between technical competence and inclusivity, noting that Parliament would continue to champion reforms that enhance transparency and accountability in the country’s governance system.

The public lecture forms part of Parliament’s broader initiative to demystify its work and deepen public engagement and foster participatory democracy.
