Ve-Golokuati (V/R), Feb 19, GNA – Communities in the Afadzato South District of the Volta region will benefit from network expansion project by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

GIFEC delegations have arrived in the district to commence the selection of suitable locations for the mounting of telecommunication network poles which aim to address telecommunication network challenges.

The challenge, being a major concern for many communities within the district, affects communication, business activities, education and emergency services.

Dr Francis Segla, Director from GIFEC, together with the chiefs append their signatures to signify the commencement of the project as well as officially release of lands in the various traditional areas for the project.

He disclosed that the gesture hinged on an appeal by the traditional rulers led by Mr Manfred Tawiah, Afadzato South District Chief (DCE), for urgent action to address the district’s persistent network challenges.

Dr Segla said after the appeal, series of processes and assessments were initiated up to its current stage of selecting suitable locations for the installation of network poles.

He said Afadzato South was the first district to benefit from the phase of the project marking a significant step toward improving digital connectivity and bridging the communication gap in the area.

Madam Aseye Kporgah, Assembly Member for Teikrom Electoral Area, expressed joy over the intervention adding that poor network connectivity had caused significant discomfort to the people.

She said the situation further made it extremely difficult to make phone calls in several parts of the district and creating serious inconveniences.

Madam Kporgah commended the DCE for his dedication to resolving the challenges, expressed gratitude to GIFEC and President Mahama for their support while hoping that through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, the project would be a success to all communities.

Some residents of the beneficiary communities expressed their appreciation to the government continued commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians through infrastructure and development initiatives.

The 11 beneficiary communities include Adigbo Tonu, Kpeve Tonu, Logba Klikpo, Leklebi Agbesia, Leklebi Fiafe, Leklebi Dugan, Leklebi Dafor, Leklebi Kame, Liati Soba, Liati Wote, and Teikrom.
