Accra, Feb 17, GNA – Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and research leadership with the successful organisation of a six-day doctoral residency for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates.

The Accra Met, in a statement said the residency, which focused on Advanced Academic Writing and Advanced Qualitative Research, formed part of the University’s broader strategy to build rigorous scholars capable of producing impactful, ethically grounded and globally relevant research.

It said 28 doctoral candidates participated in the intensive programme designed to sharpen their doctoral voice, strengthen scholarly authority, and deepen their capacity to construct coherent, theoretically grounded academic arguments.

The statement said the residency covered key areas including doctoral writing, voice and stance, argumentation mapping, thematic restructuring, citation and academic integrity, journal publishing guidance, as well as research history and paradigms.

It noted that beyond theoretical engagement, participants were taken through practical sessions that provided hands-on experience in developing concept papers.

It added that these sessions addressed critical components such as defining the research problem, formulating objectives and research questions, selecting appropriate paradigms and research designs, identifying data sources and sampling techniques, planning data collection and analysis and ensuring ethical rigour.

The statement said the programme was facilitated by seasoned academics: Professor Goski Alabi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Metropolitan University; Prof Charles Banor, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and currently Graduate Board Chair of Accra Met, and Dr Esther Julia Korkor Attiogbe of the UPSA.

It said their guidance reflected the University’s emphasis on mentorship, research integrity and scholarly depth.

The statement said participants commended the facilitators for their profound knowledge and practical insights. It said many expressed confidence that the residency has significantly strengthened their readiness for the demanding doctoral journey.

It stated that through initiatives such as this residency, Accra Metropolitan University continues to position itself as a centre for advanced scholarship, research excellence and transformative leadership in higher education.
