Accra, Jan. 8, GNA – The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has condemned the assault on Class Media Group journalist, Mr Samuel Addo, at a fire scene in Kasoa.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, PRINPAG described the attack as unacceptable and a violation of press freedom.
The Association called for justice for Mr Addo as investigations, said to involve personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, continue.
“Any attempt to intimidate, obstruct, or harm journalists in the course of their work undermines the democratic principles upon which our nation is built.
“PRINPAG calls on the relevant authorities, including the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of the Interior, to conduct a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation into this incident. Those responsible must be identified, held accountable, and subjected to the full force of the law,” the statement said.
Mr Emmanuel Opare Djan, Public Affairs and External Relations Officer of PRINPAG, said that justice for Mr Addo would affirm that attacks on journalists would not be tolerated in a democratic society.
“We further urge the public and security agencies to recognise the essential role journalists play in Ghana’s democracy.
“Media practitioners are partners in nation-building, providing citizens with information and holding power to account. They deserve protection, not harassment,” PRINPAG stated, affirming solidarity with journalists working under challenging conditions.
The Association reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights, safety and independence of media professionals, and to advocating for a free, safe and responsible press in Ghana.
Mr Samuel Addo was reportedly assaulted by some fire service personnel while covering a fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market on January 4, 2026.
