Sekondi, Jan. 8, GNA – Mr. Lan Tugbenu, the Deputy Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Western Region, has urged citizens of the region to actively participate in its civic and developmental discourse.
He said: “Don’t be passive but active to ensure healthy social discourse that speeds development.”
Mr. Tugbenu, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to mark Constitution Day, noted that the residents of the region should follow the budget allocations assigned to developmental projects and engage their various assemblies to promote value for money and accountability.
He, noted the need for tolerance, while stopping the spread of misinformation and disinformation and other forms of social abuses which threatened democratic governance.
He said: “The residents should be mindful of too much politicking on issues affecting the Region putting aside personal political inclinations and instincts… The Region should come first when it comes to developmental issues; The best governance system is democratic governance; let’s work for it.”
Mr Tugbenu called for career development and learning particularly among the youth in the new year to enhance their economic potentials adding that, “we are now in the digital age, the citizens of the region should enhance their knowledge or skills in the digital space in particular “.
Mr Tugbenu said the NCCE would continue to sensitise the citizens on the constitutional review committee issues.
The citizens must play their roles as stated in article 41 of the 1992 Constitution.
He urged stakeholders to work on issues of security and the environment which threatened the regional stability and democracy as the country celebrated the thirty third anniversary of the Fourth Republic.
