Accra, Jan. 14, GNA – The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has cautioned the public to be vigilant in the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial passenger transport.
The caution follows concerns over their suitability for public road use.
A statement issued by the Authority on Wednesday said it had noted the widespread use of Toyota Voxy vehicles, particularly on long-distance commercial routes.
It explained that many of the vehicles were originally manufactured as right-hand drive (RHD) and later converted to left-hand drive (LHD) after importation.
The NRSA said some of the converted vehicles may face handling and stability challenges, especially at higher speeds and when navigating curves, raising concerns about their roadworthiness for passenger transport.
It said it had set up a Technical Working Group to investigate the concerns and provide guidance for possible regulatory action.
“Pending the conclusion of the work of the Technical Working Group, the NRA cautions motorists and the travelling public to exercise heightened vigilance in the patronage and operation of Toyota Voxy vehicles used for commercial transport, particularly those that have undergone RHD-to-LHD conversion.
“This advisory is issued purely as a precautionary public safety measure and does not constitute a final determination on the safety or roadworthiness of any vehicle category,” the statement said.
The Authority urged road users to make informed decisions in the interest of safety while the technical assessment was ongoing and reiterated its commitment to promoting safer road use and reducing traffic crashes nationwide.
