Lawyers Dismiss claims of Angela Attieh’s arrest as false

Accra, Jan. 14, GNA – Lawyers for Mrs Angela Attieh, formerly known as Angela List, have dismissed as false reports alleging her arrest and detention by law enforcement agencies.

In a statement signed by Mr Nii Apatu‑Plange of Apatu‑Plange and Co. PRUC, solicitors for Mrs Attieh, the legal team described the publications as “irresponsible, wholly fabricated and a product of the publishers’ imagination.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, Angela List has never been arrested or detained in respect of any matter. At no time has she been treated as a criminal by any law enforcement agency. The assertion that she was arrested is a complete fabrication, deliberately crafted to cast her in a false and damaging light and to create unnecessary sensation,” the statement said.

Mrs Attieh is a joint owner of BCM International with her former husband, Mr Paul List. She joined the company in 2001 at a time when it was described as technically defunct following the resignation of senior executives.

According to the statement, she took unpaid leave from her role at KPMG to help revive the struggling company and worked for four years without salary.

Her leadership, it added, contributed to BCM’s growth from “zero in 2001 to over US$500 million.”

Following divorce proceedings in 2021, Mrs Attieh stepped back from the day‑to‑day administration of BCM International but retained her equity stake.

“It is therefore preposterous and outrightly false to suggest that she has embezzled any funds from this company,” the lawyers stated, noting that allegations of embezzlement had previously been raised in the corporate litigation case, BCM International v. Angela List, but were dismissed by the court.

The legal team said the “recycling of a claim that has already been rejected through judicial process is irresponsible, a disservice to the public and an abuse of media platforms.”

In her response, Mrs Attieh urged the public, business partners and all stakeholders to disregard the reports and treat them with contempt.

“They are nothing more than a recycling of discredited allegations designed to injure my reputation, and they do not reflect the true facts,” she said.

Investigations revealed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had not discussed nor initiated any action to arrest Mrs Attieh, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Nguvu Mining Limited. The alleged reports of her arrest were described as entirely false and misleading.

On November 17, 2025, the National Media Commission (NMC), ruling on complaints filed by Adamus Resources Limited, directed the offending media houses to retract what it described as “misleading and damaging publications” and to apologise to Mrs Attieh and her company.
