Accra, Jan. 15, GNA – The minority caucus in Parliament has demanded accountability from the government over the alleged inclusion of LGBTQ+-related content in school materials, citing inconsistency and breach of public trust.

“Parliament’s silence on this issue is itself a legislative choice,” said Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Taro.

Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps in Parliament House, Accra, on Thursday, Mr Assafuah emphasised that this alleged incident was not a partisan issue but a matter of national values and accountability.

He also called for the withdrawal of materials with LGBTQ+ content, a transparent review involving Parliament, religious bodies, and experts, and the dismissal of officials from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCa).

According to the MP, the controversy surrounded an alleged teacher manual developed under NaCCa, which introduced concepts such as “redefined sex, sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity,” sparking concerns that these concepts clash with Ghana’s cultural and moral values.

The Minority’s demands come as the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, which seeks to promote and protect human rights and prohibit activities that undermine family values, remains stalled in parliament.
