Kplandey (E/R), Jan 8, GNA – Residents of Kplandey, a farming community near Adjeikrom in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region, have expressed worry over the deplorable state of their road that has crippled economic and social activities.
According to the residents, the clayey nature of the road made it impassable whenever it rained and compelled farmers, traders and motor riders to abandon the route, while foodstuffs meant for markets in Begoro, Ehiamankyene, Bosuso and nearby communities often go waste.
A farmer, Mr. Samuel Tetteh, said the community had complained about the condition of the road to successive governments, but the situation remained unchanged.
“When it rains, we feel forgotten and taken for granted. This has been our problem for years,” he added
A resident, Mr. Thomas Emahi, appealed to the District Assembly to reshape the road with a grader, stressing that the community now requests for a temporary intervention to make the road motorable.
“We are not asking for asphalt or a major reconstruction—just reshaping will help us transport our produce,” he said.
Mr. Adjei Mohammed, the Assemblyman for the Adjeikrom Electoral Area, described the nature of the road as worrying.
He said that despite the numerous appeals made to the Assembly no action had been taken.
He said the situation affected access to essential services such as a health centre and a public school during the rainy season.
Mr. Mohammed emphasized that reshaping the road would boost agricultural productivity and reduce hardship faced by residents, particularly farmers who depended on the road to transport their produce to market centres.
