Kadjebi (O/R), Jan. 15, GNA – Residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region have expressed dissatisfaction over frequent and unannounced power outages, saying the situation was causing severe discomfort and disrupting economic and social activities.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Richard Kwashie Segbawu, a resident of Cocoa Market, a suburb of Kadjebi, said the erratic power supply had become a major concern for households and businesses.

He said residents often experienced sudden blackouts, sometimes lasting several hours, or even days without any prior communication from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

According to him, the outages affected domestic activities, damaged electrical appliances and negatively impacted small businesses, especially those that relied on constant power supply.

Mr Kofi Appiah, a resident of Martin Kordzi, shared similar sentiments and said the frequent power cuts had made life uncomfortable for residents.

He explained that students found it difficult to study at night, while phone charging and other basic activities had become a challenge.

Mr Appiah appealed to ECG to improve communication by informing residents ahead of planned outages to enable them to prepare adequately.

Ms Justine Amegatse, a fishmonger and resident of Cocoa Market, also complained about the impact of the power outages on her business.

She said the lack of stable electricity supply affected the preservation of her fish, leading to spoilage and financial losses.

Ms Amegatse urged the ECG to take urgent steps to stabilise power supply in the area, adding that timely information on outages would help traders minimise losses.

The residents called on the management of ECG and other relevant authorities to address the situation to improve the living and working conditions of the people of Kadjebi.
