GCB Bank renovates TAMASCO boys’ dormitory

Tamale, Jan. 13, GNA – GCB Bank has invested GHc1.3 million to renovate a 12-room boys’ dormitory for the Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) to benefit 300 boarding students and enhance their learning conditions.   

The renovation works involved comprehensive upgrading of the facility with new roofing, modern washrooms, disability-friendly amenities, complete electrical rewiring, structural repairs, and improved drainage systems to improve safety, hygiene, and comfort for students.  

Mr Farihan Alhassan, Managing Director, GCB Bank, who is also an old student of TAMASCO, speaking during the handing over of the facility to the authorities of the school, described it as both a personal and national investment in education.   

Mr Alhassan said, “To stand here today as Managing Director of GCB Bank feels like the story is coming full circle. It is a reminder that TAMASCO does not only prepare young people for exams; it prepares them for life.”  

Mr Alhassan said the renovation reflected the bank’s confidence in the potential of the students and urged them to make good use of the facility.   

He congratulated the school for emerging as Northern Zone Champions in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz and encouraged them to continue striving for academic excellence.  

Professor Joshua Alabi, Board Chairman of GCB Bank, who is also an alumnus of TAMASCO, recalled his days in the school’s dormitories and described the institution as one that connected generations and shaped destinies.   

He appealed to the students to take good care of the facility to ensure it served them for a long time.  

Mr Mohammed Yakubu Mustapha, Headmaster, TAMASCO, expressed appreciation to GCB Bank for the timely intervention and said it would significantly improve student welfare and academic focus.   

He reaffirmed the school’s historic role as the first secondary school in the northern part of the country, established in 1951, and its continued contribution to nurturing leaders for national development.
