Shime (V/R), Aug. 28, GNA- The Volta Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with the Anloga District NADMO Directorate, has distributed relief items to households affected by recent floods in the Anloga District.
The exercise was part of a post-flood relief effort and intervention targeted at communities hit by the overflow of the Keta Lagoon, including Nyikutor, Suipe, Dewegodo, Devenu and Nugble.
Mr Pascal Agbagba, the Volta Regional NADMO Director, said the teams regional with the officials of the Anloga District NADMO placed a key role in the distribution exercise across the affected communities.
“The recent flood displaced and affected numerous households, particularly in communities within the Shime area, leaving many residents in need of essential supplies,” he said.
He explained that the items distributed to the affected households included bags of rice, blankets, cups, mosquito nets, student mattresses, cooking oil, blankets, among other essential household supplies.
Mr Agbagba further stressed that NADMO remained committed to support affected families and would always work with relevant stakeholders to respond promptly to the needs of communities in times of distress, which were the core mandate of the organisation.
“The NADMO will continue to collaborate with district authorities and other stakeholders to provide assistance to communities affected by disasters across the region. We are hoping that in time of need, all relevant authorities will support us,” he said.
Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the Anloga District Chief Executive (DCE) who also witnessed the distribution exercise, said the intervention was aimed at alleviating the difficulties faced by affected households.
She emphasised that the District Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO, hads mobilised the relief items to provide immediate support to residents whose livelihoods and homes had been affected badly by the devastating floods.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) further gathered that the flooding of the Keta Lagoon has, over the years, remained a recurring challenge for communities within the Anloga District, as well as others communities along the coast with residents in low-lying areas often bear the brunt of the seasonal overflow.
Officials of both NADMO and the Anloga District Assembly used the occasion and reassured affected residents of continued support as efforts to fully restore normalcy to the affected communities continue.
Meanwhile, over 28,000 residents within the entire Anloga District have been affected by the unfortunate floods that occurred in June this year.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation and gratitude to the NADMO for the kind and timely gesture.
