Avenorpedo (V/R), Aug. 28, GNA- Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Akatsi South Constituency, in the Volta Region, and Mr Alexander Afenyo Markins, the Minority Leader, are expected to grace this year’s Agbeliza festival.
The festival celebrated by the people of Avenorpedo in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, is scheduled for August 29, at 1100 hours at the Avenorpedo Evangelical Presbyterian basic School park.
Mr Reuben Dorkenu, the of the Central Planning Committee of the festival, told the Ghana News Agency ( GNA) that this year’s celebration would be held under the theme “From Vision to Impact, Strengthening Our Health System Through Consolidation.”
“The presence of the two leading parliamentary figures is expected to lend significant prestige to the celebration, many have described the move as a rare occasion to have both the Deputy Speaker and the Minority Leader on the same platform in Avenorpedo,” he said.
He said that the calibre of dignitaries invited for this year’s edition reflects the seriousness attached to the festival’s theme by the Central Planning Committee.
The theme seeks to draw attention to healthcare challenges confronting the community.
Mr Dorkenu expressed the hope that the attendance of M Ahiafor and Mr Afenyo Markins would translate into tangible support towards strengthening health facilities and consolidating gains made in the community’s health sector.
He said: “This year’s festival is fully parked, other dignitaries will be Mr Rockson Kwesi Dogbegah, the Executive Chairman of Berock Group of Companies, who will preside over proceedings alongside the two parliamentary leaders and other invited guests.”
Other high ranked dignitaries expected to attend the gathering are the Mr James Klutsey Avedzi, Managing Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency and Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akatsi South Municipality.
Organisers say the confirmed attendance of the Deputy Speaker and the Minority Leader, both influential voices in Parliament, underscored the growing profile of the Agbeliza festival beyond a cultural celebration into a platform for advancing the community’s development agenda.
The celebration has secured sponsorship from a few local businesses, including Blue Crystal, Johnny’s, Mapuka Enterprise and Mapuka Pure Water, as well as Agbeleme, Vivimko and Fakajay mineral water brands.
Coverage of the event would be provided by Ghana News Agency alongside other local media houses within the areas to ensure wider public awareness of proceedings for residents who may be unable to attend in person.
As final preparations reach completion, the Central Planning Committee has called on natives, residents, and well-wishers of Avenorpedo to turn out in their numbers to welcome the Deputy Speaker, the Minority Leader, and other dignitaries, and to make the 2026 edition of Agbeliza a memorable success.
