Sunyani, (Bono), Jan. 22, GNA – The Stewards Impact Foundation (SIF), a Non-governmental organization has opened a 12-week capacity training to build the competencies of some queen-mothers in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions on conflict resolution.
The training will further empower the 200 selected queen-mothers in peace building and sustenance and thereby strengthen community-based justice systems at the local levels.
It aligned with the nation’s efforts to strengthen traditional authorities to contribute to achieving targets for the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs16).
The global goal 16 enjoins countries around the world to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions by 2030.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the opening session of the training in Sunyani, Odombarima Baffour Awuah Akomea Sakyi, the Chief Executive Officer of the SIF explained that the training would equip the queen-mothers with practical skills in conflict prevention, mediation, and traditional dispute resolution.
He said the training further sought to advance gender equality and equity by empowering the participants with the requisite leadership, advocacy and governance skills to position them well to contribute and participate actively in the decision-making process.
Odombarima Sakyi, also a sub-chief of Asupra in the Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region, said the event would also offer employable skills training like soap making and others to help enhance the socio-economic livelihoods of the queen-mothers.
“We seek to enhance the capacities of the queen-mothers to promote local government, women leadership and inclusive participation and also strengthen the leadership capacities of traditional women to build resilient communities”, he stated.
Odombarima Sakyi added that training was designed in series to advance gender-responsive leadership and deepen local government systems to promote sustainable development.
