Takoradi, Jan. 31, GNA – Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 17 constituencies of the Western Region have voted overwhelmingly for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to emerge as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election.
Dr Bawumia secured 7,906 votes out of a total of 12,924 ballots cast to beat his four contenders.
His closest challenger, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, polled 2,926 votes, while Dr Bryan Acheampong garnered 1,996 votes. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum obtained 40 votes, with Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong receiving 13 votes.
Out of the 12,924 ballots cast, 12,881 were declared valid. The region had 14,132 registered delegates expected to vote.
Dr Bawumia recorded his highest votes in the Ellembelle Constituency, where he polled 515 votes, followed by 490 votes in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency.
Dr Adutwum obtained fewer than 10 votes in 10 polling centres and failed to secure any votes in 12 centres.
Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong similarly recorded low figures in 10 polling centres and received no votes in another 10 centres.
The candidates who contested the primaries were: Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
