Anloga (V/R), Jan. 31, GNA – Dr Bryan Acheampong has recorded a decisive victory in the Anlo Constituency during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, held on Saturday at the Zion College School (ZICO) in Anloga.
The 53-year-old former Member of Parliament polled 411 votes out of the 699 valid votes cast, emerging as the clear winner at the constituency voting centre.
His closest contender, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, secured 204 votes.
Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed third with 75 votes, while Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong respectively obtained eight and one votes, while four ballots were rejected.
The official results were declared by Madam Evelyn Wutor, the Electoral Commission Officer at the close of polls.
More than 700 accredited delegates from across the Anlo Constituency participated in the election, which forms part of the NPP’s nationwide internal process to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections
Speaking after the declaration of results, some leaders of the New Patriotic Party in the constituency congratulated Mr Acheampong on his performance and appealed to party members to remain united as the contest progresses at the national level.
“This process has demonstrated the democratic credentials of the party. We urge all supporters to remain calm, united, and focused on the collective goal of winning the 2028 elections,” One Executive said.
Meanwhile, agents of Dr Acheampong described the outcome as a reflection of the will of party delegates in the constituency.
“The results truly represent the decision of party members in Anlo, and we are confident this momentum will be sustained nationwide,” an agent of the candidate noted.
The general atmosphere at the voting centre was calm, with adequate security measures in place to ensure that all protocols were strictly observed. Officials of the Electoral Commission also demonstrated a high level of professionalism throughout the process.
The Anlo Constituency results will be collated with outcomes from other constituencies across the country to determine the overall winner of the NPP presidential primaries.
