Bawumia will lead NPP to electoral victory in 2028 – Former youth organiser

Sunyani (Bono), Jan. 26, GNA – Mr Shadrach Abrefa-Mensa, a former Bono Regional Deputy Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the party’s delegates to vote for former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31.

He described Dr Bawumia as the “strongest” among the five presidential hopefuls, saying he possessed the political experience, competence, and appeal needed to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 General Election.

The NPP will elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, to lead the party into the 2028 polls. Dr Bawumia is contesting the race alongside Mr Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central; Dr Bryan Acheampong, former MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture; Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former MP and former Minister of Education; and Mr Kwabena Agyepong, former General Secretary of the NPP.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Abrefa-Mensa said: “Bawumia is regarded within the party as the natural successor to continue our tradition of experienced leadership. We believe that whoever the NDC presents in 2028, Bawumia stands tall and has the capacity to secure electoral victory for us.”

He stressed that the NPP’s history and internal structures had consistently produced leaders who rose through a defined developmental path, citing the late Professor Albert Adu Boahen, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as examples.

Mr Abrefa-Mensa added that under the Fourth Republic, Ghanaian youth had benefited significantly from NPP-led administrations through policies and programmes designed to expand opportunities and support young people.

He urged delegates to make informed decisions and rally behind Dr Bawumia, saying: “If we remain united and support him, he has the potential to become one of the finest presidents of Ghana.”
