Accra, Jan. 20, GNA – A joint delegation from the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN–Ghana) and the Africa Future Leaders Institute of Global Affairs (AFLIGA) has paid a courtesy call on Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), to explore areas of collaboration, particularly in advancing gender-responsive training programmes for female personnel of the Service.

The visit focused on discussions around strengthening women’s professional development, leadership advancement, and capacity building within the Ghana Immigration Service.

The delegation was led by Dr. Charity Binka, Chairperson of AWLN–Ghana.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Amadu highlighted key reforms underway at the GIS aimed at improving the quality of training, enhancing monitoring of gender ratios, and addressing operational challenges that affect the career progression of female officers.

He noted that women currently make up nearly 40 per cent of the Service and stressed the need for deliberate, targeted interventions to support their growth and readiness for leadership roles.

The delegation also met with Mrs. Maud Anima Quainoo, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and President of the Immigration Ladies Association, who outlined ongoing gender-focused initiatives being implemented within the Service and welcomed the proposed partnership.

She described the proposed partnership as a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing capacity-building efforts for women in the GIS.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dr. Binka reaffirmed the shared commitment of AWLN and AFLIGA to promoting women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, and professional advancement across public institutions.

She expressed the readiness of both organisations to support the GIS through tailored programmes aligned with its gender equality and women’s empowerment goals, taking into account the specific needs identified by the Immigration Ladies Association.

Dr. Emmanuel Dei-Tumi, the Executive Director of AFLIGA, also described the engagements as a significant step towards deepening institutional collaboration, noting that such partnerships were essential for promoting inclusive leadership and enhancing the role of women within Ghana’s security services.
