Sefwi Wiawso (WN/R), Dec. 25, GNA – The Western North Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has inaugurated a committee to provide strategic planning to deal with climate change and its related effects on the region.
Madam Esther Oppong Amponsah, the Western North Regional NADMO Director, speaking at the inauguration of the Regional Climate Change Committee underscored the urgency of their mandate, particularly in the face of recent unpredictable weather patterns that had adversely affected crop production and threatened the livelihoods of farmers.
She stated that the Committee had been tasked to lead climate change interventions in the region, and called for diligence, commitment, and timely action in the execution of their duties.
She said: “Proactive, coordinated, and evidence-based interventions are essential to mitigating the impacts of climate change, which continue to contribute to declining agricultural productivity and increased vulnerability of communities in the region.”
Madam Amponsah pledged NADMO’s commitment to supporting the committee with the necessary logistical and technical resources to ensure its effective operation and sustainability.
Mr Fred Ohene Kyena, the National Climate Change Director, took the committee members through their core roles and responsibilities, by outlining key expectations and providing strategic guidance to prepare them for the task ahead.
He said the orientation was designed to equip the committee with the requisite knowledge and direction to enable them effectively to deliver on their mandate.
The committee members pledged their commitment to work collaboratively in strengthening climate resilience, reducing disaster risks, and safeguarding livelihoods across the Western North Region.
