Ukrainian drone strike kills two in Russia’s Saratov

Moscow, Dec 13, (dpa/GNA) – Two people were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian industrial city of Saratov on the Volga River, according to official reports on Saturday.

Several apartments in a building were hit in the attack, Governor Roman Busargin said on Telegram.

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Emergency accommodation has been provided for affected residents, and the state will cover the costs of repairing their homes, the governor said.

Saratov has been attacked several times in recent months as Ukraine targets oil industry facilities in Russia. There were also reports of Ukrainian strikes in other regions overnight.

According to the Defence Ministry in Moscow, the Russian military destroyed a total of 41 Ukrainian drones. The information could not be independently verified.

In the Voronezh region, debris from a downed drone hit a factory, which had to temporarily suspend operations, Governor Alexander Gusev said. He did not say what the factory produces. There were no injuries in the incident.

In its bid to repel the invasion launched by Moscow in 2022, Ukraine repeatedly attacks locations in the Russian hinterland, such as refineries and arms factories.

The amount of damage and number of casualties are usually significantly lower than those caused by the huge, now daily Russian aerial attacks in Ukraine.

Despite diplomatic efforts led by the United States in recent weeks, there is still no agreement on terms to end the war.
