Tokokoe hosts NorDU festival, Minister backs TVET, road improvements

Tokokoe (V/R), 01 Dec, GNA – Mr Richmond Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament of Ho Central, urged constituents to exercise patience as he navigates his early years in Parliament, describing himself as being in “class one” and working toward higher achievements for the constituency.

He announced that his Ho office was opened around the clock for youth interested in registering for the free apprenticeship programme and encouraged communities to request services from the planned Farmer Services Centre through their assembly members.

Mr Kpotosu made these statements during the 41st Norvisi Development Union (NorDU) Festival in Tokokoe on Saturday on the theme, “Vocational and Technical Skills Training—Key to Youth Empowerment in Ghana.”

The celebration highlighted calls for youth skills training, unity, critical road repairs and renewed support for a modern Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre.

Mr Kpotosu appealed for unity among residents, calling for an immediate end to chieftaincy disputes to accelerate development. He pledged support for Tokokoe’s ambition to establish a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution and assured that major road construction works would commence across Ho Central in 2026.

In a welcome address, Togbe Kwasi Agama VII, Chairman of NorDU, reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to peaceful coexistence among its ten communities—Atikpui, Avee, Hodzo, Hoe, Klave, Lume, Nyive, Tanyigbe, Tokokoe and Shia.

Togbe Agama outlined projects achieved through community collaboration, including clinics, libraries, schools, drainage systems and potable water systems, adding that the area also benefited from the Self-Help Electrification Programme under former President Jerry John Rawlings.

He, however, raised concerns about deteriorating roads, citing the Ho–Takla–Hodzo–Tokokoe route, the Lume Atsyame – Avee Road and the Tanyigbe Atidze – Lume Atsyame stretch, and appealed for immediate government intervention. He warned that delays continue to affect the movement of people and agricultural produce.

The NorDU Chairman also called for the revival of the defunct Tokokoe vocational centre, once run by the Catholic Church, into a modern TVET institution to support youth employment. He added appeals for a new hospital for Tokokoe and renewed attention to outstanding requests from previous host communities.

Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff, commended NorDU for upholding unity, discipline and development, noting that vocational and technical skills remain essential to national productivity, economic resilience and youth empowerment. He presented a cash donation on behalf of the Ghana Navy.

Togbe Adzogaga Amenyafeti V in his goodwill message, also called for stronger unity among citizens of the Volta Region and encouraged a culture of generosity in community development. He pledged 1,000 bags of cement to support the proposed TVET project.
