Jang (S/R), Dec 21, GNA – Pupils of the Jang Roman Catholic Primary School in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region have appealed to government and other stakeholders to support the renovation of the school.

They said the deplorable state of infrastructure in the school continued to affect effective teaching and learning.

The appeal was made through a speech delivered by Master Sabsomu Nana, a Basic Six pupil and Students’ Representative during the inauguration of a solar-powered mechanized water system for the Jang community.

He said the growing student population was placing pressure on existing facilities and appealed to stakeholders to support the school to over come its challenges, including deplorable classrooms and inadequate furniture to enable them to achieve their full potential.

Mr Thomas Baturi, Headmaster, Jang Roman Catholic Primary School, described the state of the school buildings as deplorable with cracked walls, leaking roofs and inadequate classroom space.

He said the condition of the infrastructure posed risks to students and teachers and negatively affected teaching and learning, and appealed to government, corporate bodies, and benevolent organisations to support the renovation of the school.

Mr Saaka Sinkina, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive, announced that plans were advanced to solicit support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund to renovate the school.

He said the Assembly was working towards the construction of a Junior High School block for the Jang community to address the situation.

Mr Salisu Bi-Wurbe, Savannah Regional Minister, who was represented at the event, assured the community of the government’s commitment to addressing challenges in water, education and infrastructure development, and urged residents to take ownership of the facility to ensure its long-term sustainability.
